Sources told ET that the IT ministry would later seek the help of Wikipedia executives in India if it was not satisfied with the response from the foundation on the checks and balances put in place to prevent unauthorized editing by volunteers, the people said.
“It is a serious question. These edits were traced to the servers of neighboring countries and can cause serious damage to India’s internal peace and national security. We will ask (Wikipedia management) how such an edit could have remained for so long. ,” a senior government official told ET.
A letter was sent to the Wikimedia Foundation, and the IT ministry had not received a reply by the time of going to press.
On Friday, Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar said such “deliberate attempts to provoke” cannot be stopped.
